The Northern Nevada Correctional Center prison is located in Carson City, the Silver State’s capital. Carson City is on the Nevada California border at Lake Tahoe. The prison is a short drive south of Interstate 580 on the southern and eastern edge of Carson City. It is about 6.5 hours north of Las Vegas. Carson City is a combined municipal government, so the county is also referred to as Carson City. The county used to be Ormsby County.
Northern Nevada Correctional Center opened in 1964 with three units for inmates. It has since expanded to 10 units, with the other seven added after 2008.
It is a male medium-security facility with an in-patient medical care unit and a mental health unit. The prison also has an intermediate medical care unit and a structured care unit (SCU). The SCU is for inmates with medical issues that require more monitoring than an inmate without medical needs.
Northern Nevada Correctional Center houses 1,619 inmates.
NNCC is one of two state prisons in Carson City. The other is Warm Springs Correctional Center.

Sending Inmates Photos by Email
You can send pictures by email. Nevada uses Corrlinks.com to handle all emails. If you send pictures via email, those pictures must follow the prison rules, which are the same as mailing pictures via the Post Office. The staff reads all emails. Pictures are printed on plain paper in black and white.
Northern Nevada Correctional Center allows inmates to have an electronic device that will store pictures, an MP3 player in this case. The use of the MP3 player is subject to good behavior. If the inmate violates prison rules, the MP3 player is taken away, and it can be erased. All the stored pictures are gone. If the inmate violates prison rules and is removed from the general population, his belongings are stored and returned later.
