“Regular pics of family and friends are not only allowed but encouraged. When an inmate has pictures of their family and friends to put on the wall or in their photobook, it makes their time prison a lot easier to handle,” writes Natalie for the website Prison Insight. Natalie is a journalist who also served time for marijuana-related offenses.
When you send photos to USP Allenwood, there are a couple of things you need to know:
Inmate pictures are not taken away unless the pictures violate prison rules. If the inmate has to be away from his regular cell, pictures either go with him or are put into storage. When he gets out of the punishment program, he gets the pictures back.
At USP Allenwood, inmates can buy a photo album from the commissary. They may store pictures in that album. The photo album price is similar to the price of one outside the prison.
USP Allenwood does not allow inmates to receive pictures via email. Inmates have access to electronic messaging services, but they cannot send or receive pictures that way; only text can be sent in the emails as of 2021.
If you send something via email that violates the prison’s rules, you could be blocked from sending future emails. Also, they have to pay 5¢ a minute to use the TRULINCS service.
Inmates at the prison can have an MP3 player, which must be purchased from the prison commissary. Using the player is also subject to the inmate’s good behavior. If the inmate faces in-prison penalties for violations, the MP3 player may be taken away.
